Nir Soft freeware utilities for Windows

These Nir Soft freeware utilities (I counted 78 of them) are mainly to do with password recovery, but there are some for network monitoring and the internet, as well as some system utilities. I am familiar with Protected Storage PassView.

ProduKey could be a useful one if you need to know your Microsoft licence keys and don't want to download Belarc Advisor, or can't boot from a previous hard disk but can mount it as a second drive (say). All of 36KB as a ZIP file!

Old unreconstructed DOS people might like the FileDate Changer.

    Lots to look through!

I've found some real gems here too John. I like the fact that they're largely self-contained programs (thus suited to portable devices like CD or USB) and also that many support command line options, which means they are well suited for use in scripts & batch files.

Another site with similar offerings is SHELL EXTENSION CITY, millions of free Windows power tools, explorer enhancements, windows add-ons, tweaks, system utilities, freeware, ie5, although the sheer number of programs is a bit overwhelming. I'm sure you'll agree though, it's in a similar vane to Nir Soft.

All of the NirSoft utilities were written by Nir Sofer where Shell Extension City is just links to other sites. See NirSoft - freeware utilities: password recovery, system utilities, desktop utilities (home page).

    Alan and Joe,

I tried for the last 2 days to connect to NirSoft but every time get a FF message "The server at www.nirsoft. net is taking too long to respond". Do you have the same experience?

    Regards, Teunis

It is occasionally slow but I have not noticed it that way recently.

Re: Nir Soft freeware utilities for Windows

    John,

Thanks for the link! I quickly browsed through many of the programs/utilities and found one which I immediately had to try out: Volumouse v. 1.30. I had a similar utility to Volumouse I had been using for years and found this one to be much more desirable.

    THANKS!!
