Access has a rather weak export to .RTF, a file format that can be opened in Word. All graphics (such as lines) will be lost, though.

To send e-mails, you must set a default e-mail program in Internet Explorer: Tools | Internet Options, Programs tab.

it is true that the default email program may be set in the way you say,but can i do it without the explorer being installed ? i do get the same message saying that t my explorer is not installed.Maybe this is the reason?

As far as I can see, you are using Internet Explorer 6. If that is not correct, how are you browsing the Internet?

Re: send report as word document (Access 2000)

It is right, i do use Exploerer 6. i do not know why i get this error.
The rtf format is ok ith me.However on clicking the file i am asked which programme to use to open hte file, then i have to choose Word document and just then the file is opened. Can i avoid that.
And could i myself point the path, for example "C:/HQ.doc"

    DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "rptLawyers", acFormatRTF, "aa"

Apparently the .RTF extension is not associated with Word, as it should be. When you are asked which program to use, is there a check box to specify that you always want to use this program? (See screenshot).

You can specify the path and filename in the 4th argument of OutputTo - click in OutputTo and press F1 to get help.

    DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "rptLawyers", acFormatRTF, "C:HQ.rtf"

RTF and doc are not the same file formats. Access does NOT export to a doc format, so you are stuck with RTF for a report export using the built in tools.

Many thanks. You seem somehow to understand our problems, the problems of mere mortals. So my questions already solved another 2 cropped up.
I succeeded yo send the report immediately, but could i remove two bothering windows?
The first is a mesage saying "now outputting.........
    The second mesage appears:
" A program is attemting to send the following e-mail on your behalf:
    Subject .......
Would you like to send the message ?
When i click the OK all is OK,
Bu could i do without these two bothering stops ?

    Kind regards

I don't know of a way to suppress the first message, but since you don't have to click anything, it is not a real problem.

See <post#=317048>post 317048</post#> for some ways to suppress the warning "A program is attempting to ...". The free utility ClickYes is the simplest to use.

Whilst it is easiest to send emails using the default email program, it is also possible to do this in VBA independently of the email package. One example of this which can be adapted for use in Access is shown in this VBS script

This bypasses the need to respond to dialogs.
