Word Perfect conversion issues (XP SR3)

I'm just starting a project which involves converting many old Word Perfect files.
2 questions:
a) how do I delete lines drawn by WP's 'line draw'?
is there anything I can do about the fact that the double curly quote marks in Word Perfect seem to come through in Word as some kind of awkward graphic character, rather than Word's curly quotation marks?

many thanks in advance

Sorry I can't help on the deletion of lines, but on the curly quote marks, you could record a fairly simple Word macro to replace the awkward graphic(s) with the Word equivalent. It will probably require you to determine the character code of the Word Perfect character, but that shouldn't be too difficult if you use the Windows character map.

Philip hi

a) I have been through the lines issue many times and the only way I found around this was to increase the magnification to max and then scroll over the line. There seems to be only one point where it will show, eith the cross hairs, as a line thus enabling you to delete.

Just copy the character and do a replace.

Good luck

Is that selecting the line in Word after importing or in Wordperfect before letting Word at it. In Word I would normally use the arrow tool on the drawing toolbar to lasso graphic objects.

After the import. For some reason it just doesn't showup unless greatly magnified.

If it is not visible on screen at normal magnification then I would assume that it shows itself when you print (or else you won't know to go looking for it).

Is this typically a one-off in a document or do you normally encounter a number of these that need to be painstakingly removed from each file? Are they the only graphics/floating objects imported in which case a macro might provide a quick fix?

sorry not to have answered--for some reason the posts weren't coming through to my e-mail.

These answer the question--I actually didn't know about the arrow tool in Word.

best wishes

The line is visible but unless it is magnified there doesn't appear to be any way to delete/edit it. Also, this only happens when the line is within a header.

This has happened in all documents that have the line in the header and have been converted from WordPerfect.
cheers
