    Firefox - update (V1.5.0.1)

There is an update available for Firefox 1.5. I installed it and now Spellbound has been disabled - I was warned about this. I guess one disadvantage with the extensions approach is that extension writers are always playing catch-up. It's a nuisance when extensions stop working, still I guess it's best to have the most update version on the grounds of security?

    Re: Firefox - update (V1.5.0.1)

I just found out about this when I came back to my machine and found a message stating that Firefox had updated itself. So far all of my previously installed extensions are working properly - in the past, I have found that the extensions can be hard-coded as to their version compatibility. At least you were warned first in this case!

I had switched automatic updates off. I don't like anything updating unless I know about it as one never knows what drawbacks an update might bring.

If an extension could be installed in Fx 1.5 but becomes disabled when you updated to Fx 1.5.0.1, this is probably be due to the extension author not following the correct guidelines from Mozilla about setting the max version of Fx that the extension will work with. You can re-enable the extension by using either of the following extensions, both of which include options when right-clicking on a disabled extension in the extension manager to make the extension compatible. It does this by bypassing the max version checking.

    Nightly Tester Tools
MR Tech's Local Install - this extension includes a lot of other features.

Thanks for these Tony. Just installed 1.5.0.1 and Spellbound was disabled (as I was warned prior to the update). Got it back up again with Nightly Tester Tools <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16> .

You may want to try the SpellBound Development version, it includes in-line spell checking.
