Re: HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Normally, the format of messages you receive depends on how they were sent. However, see How to view all e-mail messages in plain text format in Outlook 2003. The same option can be used to turn OFF viewing all mail as plain text.

Re: HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

I'll try to use those instructions for Outlook, however I desire to read everything in HTML, not PT..

I should have said MS Word--Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (English version). This is what it shows as needing downloaded on the Windows Update, however it shows it as, "Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (English version) 0 KB / Already Downloaded" Status.... However it will not allow me to download "Security Update for Outlook 2003 (KB892843) (English version)," because "it" thinks SP2 is still not downloaded?? SP2 is automatically "checked" even though it is o KB and already downloaded. When I "uncheck" it I still cannot "check" the security update to download it. Thus...... Does this make any sense?

Re: HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

Normally, the format of e-mails you receive is determined by the sender, not by you. The MSKB article describes how you can force all e-mails to be displayed as plain text (and how to turn that off), but I don't think there is a way to read all mail in HTML.

I am not an expert on installation problems, I hope that someone else can help you with that.

Ok, this makes some sense.... I have a friend though who is sending me HTML messages and I am receiving them in PT?

Have you checked the setting described in the MSKB article?

Re: HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

That means that all e-mails you write will be in HTML format.

    Switch to the "Preferences" tab.
    Click the "E-mail Options..." button.
If the check box labeled "Read all standard mail in plain text" is ticked (on), all incoming mail will be displayed as plain text, even if it was sent as RTF or HTML. Make sure that this check box is clear (off) if you want to view e-mails in the format specified by the sender.

Re: HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

OK, this has already been done. I am "now" sending e-mails in HTML--that is one thing that has been fixed. However, when I receive a HTML e-mail they are still coming in as PT???

HTML & Plain Text (Win XP-SP2)

I desire my e-mails to be received and sent in HTML. I have the setting set correctly and yet I am receiving them in PT. Any suggestions?--Outlook 2003

A possible related problem. I HAVE installed SP2 (it says so in my MS Word "about" and in the Add-Remove section of Programs), however, every time I go to Windows Update it states I need to install SP2??

Are you receiving your emails direct from your ISP/webmail provider, or through a local server such as Exchange Server?

Check this tip at Outlook Tips - can you check the status and/or existence of that registry key (regardless of what you have set in your options)?
