Using Workgroup permissions is slow (Access 97 SR2)

I've created two databases, created separate workgroup information files, put the database and it's System.mdw on separate network directories, and setup the users and groups accounts. All seems to be working fine, except both databases are incredibly slow to open; once you are in the file, speed isn't an issue. I did the security without using the wizard. I haven't found anything in MS Knowledgebase articles concerning speed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Kathy

Thay sounds more like a network issue than an Access problem. If you put everything on a local drive, is it still slow?

    Charlotte,
You were right on -- it is much faster when run from my hard drive. What should I ask the network administrator to look at? Or, is there something I can adjust from within Access?

    Thanks for your help,
    Kathy

You'll have to talk to your network administrator, but there may not be much he can do unless he can switch the back end to a server with less traffic. You can't adjust it from within Access, but you can design your interface to reduce network conflicts as much as possible. That's entirely too large a subject for this forum, however.

If you know of a book that addresses this subject, I'd appreciate the title. I put the entire db on the network instead of splitting it between network (data) and clients (objects) to save on upkeep -- sounds like I need to rethink this...

As always, thanks for your help!
