    hyperlinks not working (Word 2002 /XP SP3)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

    Hello

Ive posted this issue before. When I click a hyperlink to an Adobe Acrobat PDF file in an Office 2003 document or in an Office XP document, Adobe Acrobat Reader starts and then closes without opening the PDF file
I found this relevant article on MSKB >>>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897755/en-us

I previously had Adobe 7.0 reader. I have upgraded to Adobe Reader 7.0.5. Restared my pc & retested. Now when I click on the hyperlink in my Word document I get the error message Cannot open specified file.

Ive also read other relevant Woody posts regarding this issue and applied some of those fixes but no success.

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    many thanks

Do you get the same problem if following a hyperlink from a html document to an acrobat file? Do acrobat files open correctly if you double click on them from Windows Explorer?

I would firstly uninstall Acrobat Reader from the machine and then install the latest version rather than choose upgrade - Is that what you did?

Yes from Windows Explorer - the result is: adobe files open up OK.
From internet explorere - if I click on an PDF link - the result is: adobe files open up OK.
If I click on a HTML file that

I did repair on Adobe 7.05. - no success.
I upgraded Adobe. I didnt uninstall and then install version 7.0.5. that was my next plan of action.

    many thanks Andrew

From your answers, it sounds like the problem is with Word rather than Acrobat so reinstalling Acrobat is not so likely to fix the problem.

Have you been through the steps contained in the star <post:=197,827>post 197,827</post:> Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)?

It is most likely to be a registry setting that is scrambled somewhere and if you can determine what that is then the fix is likely to be easy. The hard part is working out which registry setting <img src=/S/bagged.gif border=0 alt=bagged width=22 height=22>

An example of one such registry scramble could be eliminated by... Have you tried a pdf that doesn't have any spaces in the file path? eg c:test.pdf rather than c:test file.pdf
Do you get a different result if there is no spaces in the file path?

You could try one of the many "registry cleaner" utilities on the market. Many are available as shareware or trialware. These may not fix it, but it is worth a try. Just make sure you can undo any changes if you need to. (I use Tune-Up Utilities, but again, there are many to choose from.)
