hit counter to count once (2002)

    Hi,

Is there any way to set the hit counter to only count when the home page is hit? There are multiple pages my site and everytime a user goes from one page to another, the counter triggers.

    Thanks,
    Leesha

Are you using the FP hit counter?
Are you sure the hit counter only exists on the home page?
Are you using frames or CSS?

    Hi!

I'm using the hit counter from FP. It is in a border at the bottom of the page that came with the pre-formatted page that I chose and its on all pages not just the home page. When I go to delete it it deletes from all pages. I'm not sure what you mean by CSS vs frames (not sure what CSS means.). I'm a total newbie at webpages!

I think you will need to move the counter from your border to the home page - it looks like it is being refreshed each time you link to another page.

    (CSS = Cascading Style Sheets - best we leave that to another day <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> )

Ok, will try that and will start reading up on CSS tonight! LOL! Another learning experience.

Also, if I download a counter from the internet that I prefer the style of, where do I insert the code for it? I seem to always be in search of the code! Of course it wil mean I have to learn to write it now!

I suggest you stick with the FP counter for now, and play around with other solutions as you have time! Does the site offering the alternative not give instructions for using it? - perhaps if you can point us to it we can see what you need to do.

They do. The directions are to "simply cut and past the code into my source code". My problem is I don't know how to find the source code.

You have three tabs at the bottom of the screen - Design, Code and Preview. Start with a new page, click the center tab, and have a play around.

As a newcomer to FrontPage, it may well be worth investing in an initial guide, such as one of the Dummies books - this should give you an instant leg up and introduce you to all the basics of using the software. There's no point trying to run before you can walk! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Believe it or not I do have a guide book and have used it................................but I've always been one to run before I can walk LOL!

Half of the problem is that I travel with a laptop and oftentimes find myself working away from home, therefore without my reference sources. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>

    Thanks!
