Varying duration on a hammok task (2003)

    Hi,

I'm using MS Project Professional 2003 and have come across and find myself stumbling over what (to me at least) should be a fairly easy problem to solve, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. Perhaps some fresh eyes can help?

How can I make a task

How about linking task 2 with task 3 FS dependency and using -1h Lag?
Not sure if this will geve you the result you want. If not repost and I will look at it again.

    Thanks Carla

I still have not figured this out, and it comes up quite a bit. Let me state it this way

I have a task that must start on a specific day.

I want to link it to another task and have it end when the that task starts. (I; have a variable duration) Is this possible?

    For example:
    1) Project awarded (Fix date Jan 1) )
    2) Edit user manuals (to be done from Jan 1 until the Product is ready to be shipped)
    3) Product ship (this is a varying date based on other things in the schedule)

Can I have project expand and contract task 2 as the project ship moves? But alway start on Jan 1?

See <post#= 370401>post 370401</post#> regarding hammock tasks to see if that helps. You basically want a hammock that links as a start to start with one task and a finish to finish to another. HTH
