    Re: Netscape shutdown (windows XP)

Some ISPs will shut you down, if there is no activity for a certain time
    .
Just what your provider does can be found out by a call to their support people. I don't think it is a problem with your system as such.

    Re: Netscape shutdown (windows XP)

First, welcome to The Lounge. Can you tell us some more about this sad story? What if you leave your computer unattended WITHOUT IE running. If you "approach" the computer after some idle time and THEN run IE, are you on the web or not? Are you connected through a router, dialup or cable/DSL? I'm trying to determine if it's your computer, or, as Bob has intimated, your ISP.

Edited: Oops, I meant to ask this and forgot. Your SUBJECT is a bit confusing. You said NETSCAPE but then you talked about IE. Which is it?

I doubt it is the ISP as we have three stations in our home and all on the same ISP and I naturally am the only one affected.Sorry for the confusion but it is IE v6.0

Are you on a wired or wireless network?

Do you have "Hibernation" turned on?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

One possible cause of this is Windows XP powering down the network interface card (NIC) as part of its power saving. Have a look at the responses to Post 550499 and see if they help.

I'll jump in here for Dave.

Go to Control Panel>Power Options>click on Hibernate tab. UN check the "enable hibernation" box".
