    Pasting Examples

Does anyone know how to paste examples of problems, tables, worksheets etc for situations as part of a post?

    Re: Pasting Examples

Do you mean adding screenshots of various things like settings, pages, etc.?

If so, I use a freeware program called HOVERSNAP

You just use Control | printscreen to grab an image. It saves it to the location of your choice and you just point the post attach a file , to the location. It's then added to the bottom of your post. As long as it is under 100k in size the shot will be included.

You can attach a picture or another file to a post: between the area where you compose your post or reply, there is a box labeled "Attach a file - 100k Max.". The list of allowed extensions is displayed below it. If you want to attach a large file, zipping it often gets it below 100 KB.

See Leif's A Guide to Attaching Screenshots for how to create a screenshot suitable for posting.

You can also copy a table from a Word document or Excel workbook into a post - see Copying a Word, Excel or Access table to a post.

Screen Hunter 4.0 Free is also a handy program for capturing all or any part of a screen. Simple to use.

    Hans,

thanks for the input......I am aware of the attach option in the far left posting column....I think its the second or third reference in your response that deals with pasting a word or excel example in the main or center body of the post. By the way Excellent site...one of the best!!

    Re: Pasting Examples

Here is an example of a table from an Excel worksheet copied into the body of a post using the macro from the last link in my previous reply:

    <table border=1><td></td><td align=center>A</td><td align=center>B</td><td align=center>C</td><td align=center>1</td><td>This</td><td>is</td><td>an</td><td align=center>2</td><td>example</td><td>of</td><td>a</td><td align=center>3</td><td>table</td><td>in</td><td>Excel</td></table>
Below my signature is a screenshot of the same table; I entered its file name in the "Attach a file" box.

    Re: Pasting Examples

Microsoft Office Picture Manager has fewer editing features than Microsoft Photo Editor, but you can use it to crop pictures and to resize them, so it's a suitable tool to edit screenshots for the Lounge. However, if you want to add something, such as drawing a circle around a button or label to highlight it, you need Paint or a more sophisticated image editing program.

    MS Paint? Sophisticated? <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

For the benefit of the original poster, when the graphics are screen prints of application images, the "portable network graphics" (*.png) format may be the best choice for savng the graphic in Paint. And, since I'm constrained at work, I use Paint to create all the graphics I post; with practice it does everything I need except shrink the picture, for which I use IrfanView.

original size of picture was 748 Kb
62 kb resized in Paint - 25% of original
    43 kb resized in Irfranview

<hr>does everything I need except shrink the picture<hr>

The version of Paint that comes with XP has a "Stretch/Skew" option under the Image meun. (Ctrl+W). Might not be as good as Irfran, but it does seem to do a decent job in my limited testing.

This one was created in Paint

    Re: Pasting Examples

If all else fails, you can grab a screen shot with Alt+Printscreen and paste it into a blank Word doc. The standard Word format will compress the image to fit under 100K. However, this is less convenient for readers because they have to download and open the document "out of context," so it isn't the best choice.
