    Multiple copies of Outlook 2003 (2003 SP2)

    Hi

    Can anyone tell me how to stop outlook opening more than 1 copy of itself.

    I have outlook open all day, sometimes when my wife comes to use the pc she clicks the outlook shortcut in the quick launch bar, instead of clicking the system tray outlook icon. This can result in several copies of outlook open at the same time. How do I stop this happening?

    One can NOT stop Out from being started several times.

    Create a Windows user account for "The wife", create her own email address, if not already done. Set up Outlook for that account. If she has a email account on your Outlook, remove it. You could Export the emails and Contacts from your Outlook and import that to hers. You can both then remove the email and contacts from your pst files that you do not want of the other person.

    Now she would need to log you out if had not, and then log in to her account to use HER email account. She would also have her own "My Documents" and etc. You will find that it will be much easier to have separate Windows accounts as well as email accounts.

    You will BOTH be happier <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Actually, only one instance of Outlook is running, but your wife opens another window on the running instance. You can prevent this by creating a shortcut that starts Outlook with the /recycle switch. The Target of the shortcut should look like this:
    <code>
    "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice11Outlook.exe " /recycle
    </code>
    The path shown here is the default installation path; modify it if you installed Office 2003 in a non-standard location.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    The problem has been fixed with Hans' suggestion of the /recycle switch.

    Thanks again. Case closed!
