    Firewalls????

I don't know if I have a firewall problem or the problem lies elsewhere.
I'm using an application that downloads files from the internet. When I attempt to download I will get a message saying am not connected to the internet. I AM CONNECTED.
The software support tells me that the firewalls may be preventing the connection. I turned off the Windows and AOL firewalls. I use Norton and Ad-Aware. Any suggestions?

Can you give us the exact error message? What Norton product are you using? As well, you say that you have turned off the Windows and the AOL firewalls. Hopefully you do NOT run both at the same time. Two firewalls running at the same time can cause many unexpected results.

    Hi Rebel,

This is confusing. Sometimes I only get one message from the software "You are not connected to the internet".
Other times I'll get a Tcp Connect Error: Address, 8D=,.,8514.,=5D1D08 (another 4 " of letters and numbers)--at the end --Not Found ???,err=11004

Norton anti-virus and ghost. I believe at one time I was using both firewalls.

    Re: Firewalls????

If you are using the Norton Firewall, I would "Uninstall" the AOL one. The Windows one can not be uninstalled, as it will kick in until your prime one is fully loaded. This is some extra protection one has at boot up. The last I heard, the AOL is a McAfee product, so you may have problems.

Are you also using the Norton's AV or the AOL AV program?

Try removing the AOL protection completely, as just "Turning off" does NOT stop all actions of the program.

    Re: Firewalls????

I have more problems than connecting to the internet. For instance when I turned my computer on this AM it took Appox. 15 minutes for the desktop to appear. The hard disk just keeps spinning.(a solid blue screen for 5 min) When I clicked on the AOL icon, that took at least 5 minutes for AOL to activate.

Look in the control panel, Add and Remove Programs, and then it may be listed as McAfee or some AOL program. If not listed there contact AOL.

This could be the AOL protection and Norton's fighting each other.
