OL temporarily freezes (OL 2003 SP2)

My OL starts slowly, first the Avast! AntiVirus service takes over, then the LookOut AddIn loads and subsequently OL becomes operational. This is normal and I can live with that. But when writing a new email, after 30 secs or so OL freezes for 20 secs. I can keep on typing the message because the buffer remembers it but it is not very convenient. I ran Detect&Repair and the Repair InBox tool. Although the latter found some errors, the temporary freeze problem was not solved. The only other OL AddIn I use is the PST backup AddIn, but unloading it makes no difference. Stopping Avast! first makes also no difference.

My OS is XP Home SP2. NB this only happens soon after OL (re-)starts. Any suggestions are welcome.

My guess is that Outlook is sending and receiving email during that time. You can increase the time between mail checks or stop Outlook from doing them automatically (on Outlook 2000, I only checked manually, using F5, because the "freezes" made me crazy). Of course, if that doesn't help, it could be something else. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks for the info, but my OL never automatically checks emails, I use MailWasher for that sort of things.
