Installed Programs List (Win XP Pro SP 2)

When I goto the Control panel add Remove Programs My list never loads. or if it does it appears to be empty. I can get to the pop-up window for adding and removing system components and that section seams to work OK. But the full programs list is totally blank.

A few links to check, but post back if some of the solutions appear a bit daunting:

It can be another cause of the problem: if you installed programs from one account and then create another account with less than Administrator rights, under the new account the list of installed programs in APPWIZ.CPL will be blank due to group policy restrictions. However, if group policy for such account permits new program installation (say, Power Users group), any program installed from this account (and only from this account) appears in Installed Programs list.
