    Take a look at the Choose function in the builtin help.

    choose(month(date),"January","February",...)

    Oops! Since I don't play with dates very much I didn't remember the simpler solution. I use Choose a lot for other purposes - real handy for turning 1, 2, 3... into whatever strings you want.
