Re: File Backup

The backup program that MS supplies with its operating systems is not recommended as it has limited functionality and the backups are only compatible with the same operating system.

Have a search through the Software forum - there are several programs for backing up and imaging discussed there.

    Re: File Backup

If you're just talking about backing up your My Documents folder or selected files, the easiest and most reliable backup is writing everything you want to save to a CD once a day, week or month as your needs dictate. This can be done using Windows Explorer and dragging the files or folders to the CD RW drive and then following the prompts. With CD prices around 30 to 50 cents per disk it's an inexpensive and secure backup solution.

    Thanks Doc....

This satisfies me near term, but I guess I'll have to purchase something more extensive to b/u all my HD contents. Any recommendations?

    Doc,

By the way....what do you make of the win2k system tools, backup recovery tools wizard/option, that basically doesn't do the job?

    Re: File Backup

I agree with Leif's earlier post. MS backup programs are all but useless.

I think most folks around the Lounge like the imaging programs and my personal choice is Acronis True Image. The new Version 9 offers both imaging and individual file and/or folder backup capabilities. HTH

As Doc said, many of us like TI for FULL system backups. For selected file backup, like I do nightly, Woody has often recommended ZipBackup
