Access 97 refuses to close (Access 97 SR2)

    Hello,
I have a problem closing Access 97 after calls to a module. I can determine what is executed before Access refuses to close but can not find why. The Code and Forms work fine but when I Exit Access the DB closes but Access just minimises.
Any comments would be of help.
I have checked for variables that may need set to nothing, and have found some strange IF statement problems.

I have tried running the code with commented out parts to find where Access no longer will Exit.
    sequence before no exit:
    Start database
    Open to switch board
select a form closing switch board
    add data
    click save button
call module from button_click to check data - problem in here
    save data
    go back to form
    close form to switch board
    exit Access

When I call the sub to check a option box the exit seams to not work after that.

You might want to check that portion of code that you know triggers the problem. See if you have any "Set something = ..." statements. If so, make sure you have a corresponding "Set something =Nothing" statement and that it is being executed.

    Hello,
Thank you. That was the first thing I checked as I have a problem remembering to Set xxx = Nothing.
I have looked in both the form and module for some left open variable. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Re: Access 97 refuses to close (Access 97 SR2)

The other common cause of this is (quoting from Microsoft Knowledgebase article Q190074
    )
<hr>You have code behind a subform control that references a Boolean control such as
a check box on the main form, and are using an If..Then statement to implicitly
test for a value of True, as shown in the following example:

    If Me.Parent![CheckBox] Then

    MsgBox "true"

    End If<hr>

The fix for that problem is to do one of two things: either change the If Then to explicitly test for a value of true, i.e., "If Me.Parent![CheckBox]=True Then." That's the preferred method. A cheat is to put the reference to the control in parens, which forces it to be evaluated.

I thought I remembered something else, but I couldn't seem to find anything in MSKB. I guess I didn't give my search the right keywords! (like I always said, if these computers were really that smart, they'd know what we wanted without us telling them!)

Don't feel bad, it took me quite a bit of rooting around in TechNet before I found the right combination of words to find the article. I knew it was there, I just couldn't remember the exact details. Believe me, I added this thread to favorites so I can find it again the next time this comes up. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

One of these days I'm going to come up with a good way to keep track of these things. Either I forget where I filed it, or the article title doesn't jog my memory, so I skip right over it!

Well, the favorite thread is one way, at least as long as it's been posted here. I also have used InfoSelect and created a database of stuff like that and the urls for downloading samples files, etc. And I subscribe to Technet, which has a favorites feature and allows you to create folders to group your favorites. Unfortunately, I changed to a DVD subscription, and it doesn't seem to have the utility that used to allow you to migrate your favorites from a previous month. Ah, well, maybe it's built in and I just haven't found it yet. <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>
