Open excel files in Works (office 98)

New computer-- has works suite, old computer excel files. In what format do i save old excel files so they can be read by new works suite spreadsheet?

Works should be able to open Excel workbooks, with some limitations, see Works: Limitations of Sharing Files with Excel.
To open an Excel workbook, select Open, then File Types > Excel Files (*.xls)
