Blue screen in windows XP (XP)

My mate was getting the following error message when switching on his PC. Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt windowssystem32configsystem. You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD ROM. Select R at the first screen to start repair.
He does not have the original CD, i have used my CD to copy the above file, i managed to load up windows. Did windows updates and installed service pack two, restarted the PC and now the following error message comes up:

STOP c000021a {Fatal system error}. The session manager initilisation system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026C. The system has been shut down.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? and Can i use my own CD(windows XP Dell CD that came up with my PC) and his windows activation key to re-install windows?

    Many thanks,

    Skender

Re: Blue screen in windows XP (XP)

I have re-installed windows using my disk then activated + registered with my friends windows xp product key.

but the drivers are missing for the following:
    Ethernet Copntroller
    Multimedia Audio Controller
    SM Bus Controller
    and Video Controller (VGA Compatibale).

Went to device manager to check drivers details i.e. manufacturer etc. there is no info. Does anyone know how i could find the drivers for the above devices?

    Thanks,

    Skender

If it is a Dell system you used to be able to go to the support area and find the original configuration using the service code. You could then download the drivers from Dell or get them from the OEM site.

You can try the Driver Guide Web site .

If you can run Windows, you might try the Belarc Advisor but without drivers working it may not give you the info you need.

You need a screwdriver, a pen, and (optional) a flashlight. Unscrew and open your computer. Look at the motherboard (the main board to which other details are connected). Try to find manufacturer name and motherboard model (using the flashlight, if necessary). Write down all words and numbers you can find. If you have the video adapter (the monitor is connected to additional card, not to motherboard itself), do the same for the video card. If the network cable is attached to NIC (Network Interface Card) and not to the motherboard, do the same for the NIC card. Then go to the Internet and search for the words and numbers you wrote down adding "driver" and "download" words. If you are lucky enough you would find the drivers. Download them, copy to the removable media (CD-R, jumpdrive, etc.) and install them on the problem computer.
