XP newbie question (XP media edition)

I can't figure out how to get my computer to remember passwords. I have gone to Tools- Internet options- Content- Auto complete- and checked/enabled every option, but for example, when I go to Yahoo EMail or Myyahoo, every day, there is a box "check here to remember password" I check that box and the info is never there when I go back. It does not remember it. I run Bit Defender Standard Antivirus and also AVG antivirus, I have cookies enabled, but was wondering, if something in my security deletes that information upon logoff or ???? ..... I'm sure there is a setting somewhere to allow this. Anyone know? Thank you, everything I've asked about so far, has been 100% right on the money from this site. Thanks again

Is your Windows user account a "admin" or a "Limited" type?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

This probably does not apply to your issue but you should not be running two A/V programs that do real time scanning simultaneously. There is a good chance they will cause problems at some point.

The account has administrator access, and I really don't think it has anything to do with the antivirus because it was doing this before I got Bit or avg, I have been running both for about a month now and haven't had any problems, alot of times Bit will catch something that AVG doesn't or vice versa, Yeah I know you are not suppose to run 2 antivirus programs. But I am paranoid. Anyway does anyone know where the setting for Explorer or XP is to allow it to remember passwords?? It seems like it did when I first got the computer, then I got a message "do you want windows to remember password", and I hit "No" and "Do not ask again" anyway now I can't find it anywhere, and it's driving me nuts.

See MSN Search: restore password save prompt for links on restoring the password save prompt. Aslo, see line 13 at Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP.

This might not be a Windows issue, but a Yahoo security feature. I'm not sure, but I believe that Yahoo cookies expire after a set number of hours for security reasons. I have the same issue when logging into my Yahoo Mail account. Even when I set it to remember my password and user id, it will sometimes remember the user id and not the password other times it doesn't remember either (this might be due to my habit of deleting the contents of my Temporary Internet folder at least once a day too). I'd contact Yahoo and see what they say if it really bothers you.

Doc I think you are right, I just emailed yahoo with a detailed message, I am at work, and also on this computer, I can login, hit remember id/password, and immediately logout and go back like within 5 minutes and it doesnt remember, same way at home, even if I logoff and immediately go right back 30 seconds later it doesnt remember anything, well.... my MSN messenger 7.5 and also XM Satellite online and a few other spots DO remember my id and password, even weeks later?? Go figure. It's got to be something with yahoo, I think.

If you are at work, it is possible that group policy for IE blocks cookies. From Tools menu select Internet Options, then Privacy tab, click Advanced button, and make sure that IE accept first-party cookies. But your profile can prevent you from viewing or changing your privacy settings. For more information, see How to Manage Cookies in Internet Explorer 6
