Very slooow form saving (2002 SP3)

I have a Continuous Forms form that is based on a Xtab query. The Xtab query on its own takes about 12 seconds to fully open. (Duel core 2.6 Pentium with 2 gig memory). The form takes about 12 seconds to open.
However when I make even the slightest change to the form in design mode it takes 30-42 seconds to save. During the save the phrase [running] keeps flashing in the code window titlebar. Is this normal?
I tried copying all the controls to a new form, but that made no difference. I didn

In my experience, having a crosstab query without fixed column headers (the Column Headers property of the query is blank) as record source for a form or report causes the kind of slowness you describe, although it seems extreme in your situation.

Col header isn't blank, it is a query returning a list of Meet date IDs. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
Thanks (again) for your input. You have no idea how much it is appreciated.

Wow! In fact double WOW. I tried that and although it made no diff to the query opening time, there is now no funny [running] in the code window titlebar and saving instantaneous.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. You're a genius.
    Thanks Hans.
