    Windows Defender error 0x80004003

Any idea what the error below is about? It occurred when I clicked scan now in response to Defender's warning that I hadn't scanned my computer in 4 days. I'm running XP Home SP2 fully patched.

A search indicates that this error can occur when you attempt a full scan. For the moment, the suggestion is to not to click Scan Now, but select Scan | Custom Scan, then select some folders instead of everything.

Hans has already pointed to an answer, but I would like to add that one can also look at the Newsgroup for Windows Defender. Though there are numerous of posts to wade through, one can for instance choose the General Newsgroup and filter "show threads with helpful posts". In for example this thread they give the same tips.

Regarding my <post:=557,034>post 557,034</post:> about problem with installation (error 1609), it seems that it's related to every non-English OS. I don't want to mess with adding users etc. Sometime in the future MS will get it working.

Phew; my mouse stopped working just as I started to do this post; it can be done via keyboard, with a lot of use of Tab. key ...

Thanks. I'll have a look at that.
