ActiveX Controls Don't Start Automatically (6-soon

Microsoft is planning to update IE 6 for Windows XP SP2, and perhaps future versions, to require users to "click" ActiveX controls before their user interfaces become active. (Some functionality still might start automatically, such as playing a sound recording.) This apparently is related to a patent lawsuit.

Unless you test the pre-release version of the update, this should not affect you, but I thought I would post these links now for future reference because they probably will affect a lot of IE-specific sites and applications. Note that the patch, and these articles, are subject to change:

Internet Explorer ActiveX update (MSKB 912945)
HTML and DHTML Overviews/Tutorials/Activating ActiveX Controls (MSDN Library)

    Jefferson.
Is this another step backwards? Sounds like another click to the action.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Not sure yet. If Microsoft doesn't want to pay patent royalties on every copy of Windows, then it might have to remove some functionality now and then...
