Word doc not seeing Access queries (Access 2003 SP2)

When a client goes into a word doc and tries to set the database, and then tries to select a query from that database, they get an incomplete list of queries.

They have Office 2003 SP1, would this make any difference?

Let the client do the folllowing in Word:
    - Select Tools | Options...
    - Activate the General tab.
    - Tick the check box "Confirm conversion at Open".
    - Click OK.

Now go back to step 3 in the Mail Merge Wizard (task pane).
    - Click Browse...
    - Select the database and click Open.
    - You'll get a dialog asking how you want to connect to the database, with 3 or more options:
    - OLE DB Database Files
    - MS Access Databases via DDE
    - MS Access Database via ODBC

Try the DDE or ODBC option instead of the default OLE DB.

    Note:
If you select OLE DB Database Files, you should see all tables and those queries that OLE DB can handle, in one list.
If you select the DDE option, you'll get a dialog with a Tables tab and a Queries tab.
If you select the ODBC option, you'll see only tables in the list. Click Options and tick the Views check box to see queries too.

Now why would that work, we chose DDE as the option, and not the normal way?

Could an upgrade to SP2 help? They are currently on SP1.

Re: Word doc not seeing Access queries (Access 200

Is your question "why did it actually work with DDE" or "why would you expect it to work with DDE"?

Each different interface has different features, but Microsoft is defaulting to its "latest and greatest" standard, even if it does not offer all the same functionality as DDE. Merging from an Excel workbook has similar issues.

As for whether a Service Pack might help, I very much doubt that the use of OLEDB as the default will be changing any time soon.
