    Screens 'N Themes (Pro, SP2)

    Hi,

I was looking for a theme to base a kinda gothic look on so I went looking for a theme on the internet ... I found the usual crop of this executable screensavers and and whatever but I also found that every theme I tried to download was an executable which made me rather suspicious. I don't recall themes (on 9.x at least) needing to be executables and screensavers were just SCR files IIRC.

I mean, am I wrong here ... have XP themse and screensavers "evolved" to the point that they require installation or is there something I should be wary of here?

Themes have more than one component (wallpapers, cursors, screensavers, dll's, file associations, etc.) as opposed to a simple screensaver or background. As a result, most themes do require installation. Even Microsoft themes are available as .msi files (installation files).

The CursorXP Themes from Stardock are also executables, but you can look inside them if you open them with WinZip. And John is correct that most files of this nature have to be installed.

I've been away for a while dealing with my new campaign so I failed to come back to this ... sorry!

Anyway thank you for those answers :-)
