    What is your default email program?

    Provide a link to a web page that you get this error!

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Try this:
    - Select Start | Run...
    - Type the following:
    <code>
    "C:Program FilesOutlook Expressmsimn.exe" /reg
    </code>
    - Press Enter or click OK.

    Post back if this doesn't solve the problem.

    Have a look here (scroll down toward the bottom of the page). You may also want to look at this Google search .

    From this MSKB article.....

    ...SYMPTOMS
    When you click a Mailto link on a Web page, you may receive the following error message:
    Could not perform the operation because the default mail client is not installed properly.

    CAUSE
    This behavior can occur if you use Outlook Express as your default e-mail client and the Mailto link contains more than 456 characters.

    RESOLUTION
    To work around this issue:
    1. In Internet Explorer, click Source on the View menu.
    2. In the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) source code, locate the list of e-mail recipients. For example:

    <A HREF="mailto:someone@somewhere.net,anyone@anywhere .net">visible
    text</A>

    3. Select the e-mail addresses.
    4. Copy the e-mail addresses to the Clipboard by clicking Copy on the Edit menu.
    5. Quit Notepad.
    6. In Outlook Express, click Compose Message.
    7. Click the To box, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.

    Re: Could not perform this (Windows XP)

    Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it. I found out by myself that when I get this message what I have to do is go into Internet Options, Programs and change my default Email to Microsoft Outlook then I can use the link with the problem after I'm done I just revert back to Outlook Express.
