    WOW Vol 6/30 (97 SR1)

    HELP !!
After reading WOW above today, I installed the security patch for Word 97, my version, from MS.
Now, when I try to open any Office doc., I get a box titled " Word 8 " ( which I don't have..) and the message that there is not enough disk space/memory to open Word...
NOW WHAT DO I DO ?!
    Thanks for any help ..

    Hi euterpe,

Word 97 is Word version 8. I believe the problem you are encountering is that you need to have the SR2b patch installed as well:
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/wd97mcrs.aspx>http://office.microsoft.com/download.../wd97mcrs.aspx</A>

Note too, that once you obtain and install the SR2b patch you will need to reinstall the Security Update.

    Re: WOW Vol 6/30 (97 SR1)

Thanks for help - done that, re-initialised, closed all other applications, still getting the "no memory or disk space" message. According to Sys. manager, I have 71% system free, over 50% of hard disk free. Also, problem is only with Word, not Excell or any other programme.
I can`t get at any of my files !
Can you help me before I have a heart attack ?
    Thanks
    B.

    Hi B.,

At this point I'm really not sure. So far I haven't heard anything like this happening with the Post Service Release patches.

I'm wondering if it isn't a problem with your Temp folder being too full. Since the SR's and patches use the Temp folder that is a possibility.

Search for all *.tmp files and delete those you find. Also clear the Temp folder.

It may be a problem with a corrupt Normal.dot as well. Locate Normal.dot and rename it to OldNormal.dot. Word will create a new one upon starting (When it starts of course! <g>). Any customizations can be copied to the new Normal.dot via the Organizer (Tools/Templates and Add-Ins) One this is complete OldNormal.dot can be discarded.

You may want to check the troubleshooting steps in this article as well:

You do have Word 8. "Word 97" is a marketing conceived alias for Word 8.

Ok - been there, done that - cleaned up registries, even re-installed Office - STILL getting " not enough memory or disk space " when I try to open Word - and no other programme is affected ...
Now what ( b.t.w., everything was fine until I downloaded the famous patch...)
