    Replication Woes (97 sr2)

    hi all!

i have a replica set that all use the same SQLServer back end, but the master and the replicas behave differently.

specifically, in the replica, i cannot delete records from subforms. in the master, i can. this is true even when i run them on the same computer.

is this fixed by a later service pack, or by Access 2000?

    thanks!

Give us a little more information. How are you deleting records from the subform, by using the delete key, by using code behind a button, or what? The only thing you shouldn't be able to do in a replica is make a design change. The data manipulation should behave exactly the same in both.

i''m using the delete button from the toolbar. but i tried to use a button, and it didn't work either. of course, i tried to do this the easy way, with the button wizard, so it probably was effectively the same thing as the toolbar button. i can send the code if you need it, but it was probably a docmd.

    thanks!

You mean a custom toolbar? Can you delete a record by selecting it and hitting the delete key on the keyboard? If so, then the problem is in your code and you'll ave to dig into it to see what's happening that the replica can't accept. Also, did you test both replica and master on the same machine and using the same profile to be sure you're comparing equivalent instances?

actually, i mean the regular toolbar, same as if i was using the menu.
i'm not showing a record selector, so hitting delete just deletes individual characters.
i don't actually have any code, just subforms.
i logged into the master using the master user and password, closed just the db, leaving access open, then opened the replica.

    just remembered:

it tells me: "The jet engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

no one else is in this same record.
