ACCESS Import Error (WinXP-SP2 - OXP)

Haven't used Access in a long while. Had a need to import an Excel spreadsheet into Access and got an error which upon investigation revealed that there is a broken link to a dll file referenced by either the import process or the database or Excel (I don't know which). The dll is named DAO360AOL.dll. I couldn't find anything in Access Help telling me how to proceed. I was able to determine that this is the problem by googling the Access Import error message and following a link to a Microsoft article, but I was unable to resolve the problem from what I understood from the article. The error when importing the spreadsheet was "ActiveX component can't create object".

    Would appreciate any help.

Are you sure about the name of the DLL? There is a file named DAO360.dll, but I've never heard of an AOL version. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Try the following:

    1) Re-register DAO:
    - Quit Access.
    - Select Start | Run...
    - Type <code>regsvr32 "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedDAODAO360.dll"</code>
    - Press Enter or click OK.
    - Open your database and see if the problem is gone.

    2) If not: look for missing references:
    - Activate the Visual Basic Editor (Alt+F11)
    - Select Tools | References...
    - Are there any references whose check box is ticked, starting with MISSING?
    - If so, clear their check boxes, then click OK.
    - Switch back to Access and see if the problem is gone.

Re: ACCESS Import Error (WinXP-SP2 - OXP)

    Hello HansV!

I double checked the name, and it DOES have the 'aol' in it. I tried to register the dll under both names and got a message that the object couldn't be found.

    Thanks for your help.

Re: ACCESS Import Error (WinXP-SP2 - OXP)

    Hello HansV!

Short Version: I got it fixed!

Longer Version: I shut down all apps and restarted WinXP. I opened the Access database and got the error. I googled the message again (just to be sure) and went thru the same MS recommended fix. This time the missing dll WAS named DAO360.dll (I must be losing it -- that or there's a gap in the space/time continuum where I am). I copied the instruction examplefor regsrv32 from the MS article and pasted it into the 'Run" panel and then changed the dll name to DAO360.dll and got the message that the re-registration worked. I then re-tried the import and it works as usual.

I really thank you for your help! I only posted this longwinded response in case it might help someone else.

    Thank you again!
