    ASP.NET account (Windows XP)

At some point in setting up my new XP install (I think after a run of the network wizard) a couple more user accounts showed up in my USERS account window in Control Panel. One is "Guest" and the other is "ASP.NET".

I did a quick Google search on ASP.NET and found it has something to do with creating web content?

Anyway, can ASP.NET and GUEST be removed from the user accounts without harm to the system? The only other account is my own which is a Administrator account.

Also, in Windows 2000 I kept my own personal Administrator account and a separate standard Administrator account as an emergency backup top access the system. Is that a good idea in XP as well?

    Thanks,
    BH

The Asp.net account can be deleted - see here and here . It's NOT a good idea to delete the Guest Account .

As for the Administrator Account, once you create another account with administrative privileges, the default XP Administrator account becomes hidden (by default), but can be accessed (if necessary) by booting to Safe Mode. Google provides many articles on all of these topics.

    John,

Thank you for the links. I have removed Microsoft .net Framework from the computer and the ASP.NET account is gone. Now we'll see if any of my programs stop working! Good old "Go Back"!!!!!!!!

    Thanks again,
    BH

There are more and more programs that do require the .NET framework to run. You'll find out if you need it or not. All you really needed to do was delete the account unless you are using .NET to publish web pages.
