I created a rainbow background....saved it as a template. Somehow, it is now the default. Now when I begin PowerPoint, I get the rainbow background. How can I get back a blank background? Thank you very much.

Did you name the template Blank.pot? If so, it has become the default presentation. Simply give it a different name to make it "just" a template.
Templates can be found in Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates. You must show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer to see them.
Thank you, Hans. The rainbow template was named "default." I renamed it and PowerPoint now opens with a blank slide. By the way, I checked in the templates folder after I made the change. I do not see any templates called "blank" or "default." Is this how it should be?
Thank you very much.

If you checked it after renaming the template, it should be OK.
Thank you, Hans, but I'm a bit confused. Should I now see a template named "default" or "blank?" There are no templates by that name in the Templates folder.
Thanks again.
Alan
No, unlike Word, which always creates a default template Normal.dot, PowerPoint doesn't have a default template unless you create it yourself.
Thank you. I didn't know that. Now it's all clear. Also, it's good to know in case I ever want to create a default template. I seem to recall being asked if I wanted to make the rainbow the default. I probably said yes.I'm not sure since it's been a few weeks but it's clear now.
Thanks again.
