    trend curve formula (2000 SP3)

I have tried making predictions using the the trend curves option within excel graphcis. Thouh my curve was based on sales versus year, the graph plotted data sales verus year correctely. However the formulas generated by the trend curve option projected values using x =1 for year 1, 2 for year 2 etc. rather then 1997,1998 etc. Why?

Are your "Years" actually Text and not numbers?

    Another thought:
Did you use a line chart instead of an XY chart? A line chart presumes the "x" are categories (ie text) and not numbers. So even if your years are numbers the trend (bsed on the chart type) presumes they are text.

Right click the chart and select chart type and pick and XY scatter type

Could you post a stripped down version of the workbook, with sensitive data replaced with dummy data?

What about the 2nd comment: Is it a line or XY chart?

A line chart will treat them like text in the trendline
