    Metadata (OfficeXP SP3)

How do I determine if the metadata in a word document can be viewed if I send that document as a word attachment to someone via email.

I know there a different ways to view metadata - how do I do this?

Is there a way to view previous track changes via metadata?

Also if I have track changes in a document. and the track changes are required by the recipient ,does this mean I cant clean out the metadata for the tracking?

    many thanks

See MSKB article How to minimize metadata in Word 2002 for info about what is being stored in a document, and how to remove various kinds of metadata.

For example, if you select to remove personal information from a document on save, tracked changes will be preserved, but not who applied them - all will be marked as having been applied by an anonymous "Author".

You can see some of the metadata if you select File | Properties. You can also open a document with the option "Retrieve text from any file"; you'll see the last ten users who worked on the document, and other metadata items (warning: don't edit or save the document if you opened it this way!)

    Hey Hans

Thanks for that. I remember someone mentioned if you open a Word document in NotePad, metadata is also revealed.

    cheers diana

    Hi Hans

I couldnt find the Word Open option "Retreive text from any File".
When I went to Open, in the Open dialog box, from the drop downlist "Files of Types:, theres the option "Recover text from any File".

Is this what you are referring too? I'm on OfficeXP.

Yes, that's what I meant. I am using the Dutch language version of Word, and translated back into English incorrectly. Sorry about that, I should have checked the translation before posting.

Do you know if there is any software that can view all the Metadata. For example using NotePad you open up a Word document, and theres binary text charcters. Are there tools to review this? and metadata?

    Many thanks
