I have attached a very simple workbook that adds an item to the Tools menu. This version shows a message box, you can adapt the code to dump the result into a cell.

Name corrected by HansV - thanks to Rory for pointing out the error.

Thanks much for the workbook that adds an item to the Tools menu.... but it says see Tools Menu - when I open the Tools menu I can't see anything that has changed.

How do I run the timer?

Make sure that macro security is not set to High, and that you enable macros when you open the workbook.

OK, thx. I got it to run -- I think. Is there something that shows it is running? Does anything change visually?

The caption of the menu option changes from Start Timer to Stop Timer. You could change the caption of the workbook window or of the Excel application too, or the status bar text. Feel free to modify the code any way you like.

    Re: timer add in? (2000)

If it is in the order of minutes, why don't yousimply use a three column table:

Proj. name, Start time, Stop time.

When you start, you select a new row, enter the name of the project (or code or whatever), go one cell to the right and hit control-; (semi-colon). That enters the current date and time into the cell. When done, do that in the third column.
