    normal paragraph behaviour (2002 SP3)

    Not a major issue, but...
When I backspace to delete a paragraph (and join it with the last paragraph - all 'normal style with 2inch left margin - it returns to the left margin and requires a second backspace to finally delete it.

Is there some setting in Tools > Options that prevents this behaviour.

    Thanks.

Apparently, the first Backspace deletes some hidden formatting - perhaps indentation, or a tab character?

I generally find that Delete is more predictable than Backspace.

    Thank you Hans.

I'm still curious as to the why. I have attached a word doc. Your experience may vary of course.

    Thanks.

Yep, it's indentation: the first backspace removes the indentation, the second one the paragraph mark. If you click at the end of the previous paragraph and press Delete, the paragraph mark AND the following indentation will be deleted.

If you want to change the behaviour: select Tools | AutoCorrect Options..., activate the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and clear the check box labeled "Tabs and backspace set left indent", then click OK. You should now need Backspace only once to delete a paragraph mark.
