Word doesn't keep its formatting (>2000)

I'm posting this that someone asked me and I couldn't imagine why. He says that he changes paragraph indents in a Word table and saves the document. When he opens it again, the paragraphs have changed back to where they were. He is turning the text vertically in that cell, if that makes a difference. ?? Puzzling.

I don't see how this could happen when you save, close and reopen a document, but perhaps the style used in those table cells has been set to automatically update? If so, any change to another cell would reset the indent.

Have him check the setting under Tools > Templates and Add-ins > Automatically update document styles. If this is turned on then the style definition can change when the file is opened.
