    Viewing Pane (Outlook 2003 SP2)

Is there any way to stop the preview pane from coming up on the right side of Outlook? It seems that this might be a way to get your machine infected with something if it can launch itself from the preview pane. I would like to shut this down so that this cannot possibly happen. Any insight that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. <img src=/S/compute.gif border=0 alt=compute width=40 height=20>

The Preview pane in Outlook 2003 is quite safe - Microsoft has disabled executing scripts etc. in preview. Opening an e-mail because you don't know what's in it is more dangerous...

From the general Outlook window menu: View | Reading Pane | Off.

Since Outlook 2000 MS has done a lot to prevent malware and viruses from running in either Preview Pane or AutoPreview - if you have up-to-date virus protection, the Preview Pane is no riskier than any using any other trusted application.
