    split dates from col to three (excel 2003)

    I have 386 dates in the format dd/mmm/yy
    all in column A down

    I have tried spliting them by text to columns and spliting on the /
    this doesnt work any one have a suggestion?

    Dates are stored internally as numbers. The dd/mm/yy format is only a way of displaying them.
    You can use formulas =DAY(A1) in B1, =MONTH(A1) in C1 and =YEAR(A1) in D1, and fill down as far as needed.

    They are numbers not text and only have a "/" for display in the formatting.

    use formulas like this in B1, C1, D1::
    =Year(a1)
    =Month(A1)
    =Day(a1)

    to break out the year, month, and day respectively. Copy these 3 formulas down the rest of the columns. Copy and pastespecial - values to convert to values and then you can delete the original.
