    Re: Duplicate Files

Duplicate File Finder is a freeware utility. I have used an earlier version and found it useful and easy to use.

    Re: Duplicate Files

    John,
One thing to be careful with, is the problem that can exist, where some apps will require a <big>copy</big> of a file in a certain location <big>in addition to the usual place</big> . Removal can make the program unusable without this copy.
So be certain that removing a DUP does not render another program or app corrupt.

    Re: Duplicate Files

I found this program years ago and use it a lot. I cannot find the source as the website link no longer works.
Hope you get use from it.

To expand on Bob's <post:=563,206>post 563,206</post:>, many products today allow multiple versions to be installed concurrently - Java & .Net are two that come quickly to mind. Many times products require a certain version of a function correctly. XP also keeps folders under %windir%winsxs that have many duplicates of system files that should be kept.

    Re: Duplicate Files

It looks as though the original proprietor (Midnight Blue Software) is no longer around, and Googling does not reveal any new company maintaining the product. Based on its original freeware status, it's probably okay to keep it posted here (but I am not the final arbiter of such things!).

    Re: Duplicate Files

MS has one within the materials found on this page. Has anyone tried it?

    I use PCMag's DupLess, which is no longer Free to download. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>
