Calculate between integrated excel sheets in Word (2003)

    Hi,

I've created a few excel tables in Word. These excel tables are not a seperate XLS file, but Word integrated. Does anyone now if it's possible to do calculations, or make links between these tables? I don't want a seperate XLS file, just 1 word file with the tables integrated in it

    Tnx

I don't think you can link different embedded Excel tables within a Word document. They have no way of "knowing" of each other's existence.

    Hi Hans,

    Actually, you can.

For example, if you create a 5*5 Excel sheet inside a word document and enter something into C3, then copy B24 and use Edit|Paste Special' 'Link' and paste as an Excel object, you'll get a new sheet linked to the first. If you format the linked one as 'in line with text', then updating the source worksheet will also update the target one (you may have to select the target sheet and press F9 to get it to update).

    Thanks, I didn't know that!

I see that you can also activate another (already existing) Excel worksheet object and select Edit | Paste Special, Paste Link. So what the original poster wanted is possible after all <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

This is exactly what i wanted, thanks. But it seems not very stable.... When I save the document en reopen it, it's not working anymore.
Did you experience the same problem?

I'm afraid it fails for me too. Perhaps macropod will have another suggestion.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by macropod on 17-Mar-06 12:48. Correction to keystroke combo for field code access)</P>Hi Gerben,

    Works for me.

However, if you haven't saved the document beforehand, the link will point to 'Document1' or whatever. In that case, if you had copied your source cells and pasted them into:
. the document as a link, you'd need to change the filepath and name in the LINK field. In this case, you can get to the field code by selecting the in-line linked object and pressing Shift-F9.
. another embedded worksheet as a link, you'd need to change the filepath and name in the (array) formulae in the embedded target worksheet. In this case you can get to the links by opening the embedded target worksheet and selecting the linked cells.

    Cheers
