    Beware NeoSound-FX

Most of *very* long message (over 10,000 bytes!) moved to attachment by HansV

I came across an interesting sounding [supposedly] free app called NeoSound-FX here:
    http://www.neosoundfx.com/download/index.htm

I downloaded and ran the install. With potentially suspicious apps like this, I always read the legal preamble. Doing so, I saw that this app was going to install WebEnhancer (see #2 below). So I did not check off the accept box and I cancelled out of the install. Unfortunately, the app ignored my cancel choice and installed itself and I watched it install itself and WebEnhancer anyway.

Looking in the install folder, I then tried running the uninstall.exe file that was there. Usually this works. But in this case, it did nothing except list out a long list of uninstall parameters for MSIEXEC. Then I tried the Add or Remove Programs which appears to have worked.

I didn't run across any non-working pages on the site when I looked at it. The support page brings up a standard form. Perhaps you just got there at a bad time?

Regardless, I don't like any software that loads other things onto my machine, whether stated in the EULA or not. Guess it's a good thing I already have an audio editor that I like!

The pages for both screenshots do not work on the site:

The requested URL /screenshot/screenshots was not found on this server.

If you type something into the support form and click submit, this doesn't work either:

The requested URL /support/--WEBBOT-SELF-- was not found on this server.

I agree with you on installing other software than what I downloaded. BUT in this case, this guy is a pure scammer because the program itself AND Webhancer gets fully installed even if you cancel out of the install. That isn't kosher at all!

Why did you remove the WHOIS info on the post? The reason I posted this info was because this guy IS a scammer by virtue of ignoring cancellation and putting up a support form shell which doesn't work (and was successful in fooling you). What was wrong with posting this info here?

<img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> Nothing was removed from your original post. Hans made an edit (which he indicated at the beginning of your post) and simply moved what was a lot of information into a text file attachment <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

But if you asked him, I bet he would just say he was a sloppy coder! <img src=/S/innocent.gif border=0 alt=innocent width=20 height=20>

    I'm starting to sound like the Devil's advocate here. Time for me to <img src=/S/hushmouth.gif border=0 alt=hushmouth width=16 height=16>

Right. Sorry, text was a bit small and my old eyes didn't register it...
