XP home edition on domain network (Home edition)

My manager at work has got a laptop and wants to connect it to the work network, it is a domain network. As far as I know Windows xp is not designed for domain networks but there is a way to access a domain network. My question is: Is it legal to use Windows XP home edition at work (business) on a domain network?

    Many thanks,

    Skender

As far as I am aware, you can not connect XP Home to a domain.

See Windows XP Professional is required to access a domain-based network.

I believe it is possible to access some resources such as printers, but I suspect you want more than this.

So the question is simply about the legality of connecting to a domain using Windows XP Home?

You can not join a domain with XPH. You can access shared resources such as printers and folders as long as the shared resource does not require you to be a domain member.

If you mean according to the EULA, then yes it is legal. You just don't get all the functionality and validation you do when you join the domain.

You may wish to Google for XP Home domain and wade through what comes up...

There used to be an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro, but it seems to have been pulled some years back. Best you can get now seems to be an upgrade (from <whatever>) which in the UK is [b]<big>
