Problems with saving files as RTF format. (2000)

There appears to be a a bug when saving files in FTF format , in that when l save a document as rft format and then paste it into Word the page setup is letter.
Yet my setting are all UK based , is there a work around this problem?
The documents are saved from an email.
see screenshot for how l am saving this document.
I have posted this into 2 categories as l not to sure which one it should go in.

    Hi Justin

It seems you have had this problem for quite a while now as I have seen a couple of posts about this in the word forum. It seems there is some problems here.

I have seen that you have been advised in the previous post in Word to check your printer set up and this does not fix it, <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>strange this would normally do the fix. Other ideas that may assist are:

    1) Re-install the printer drivers or look for updates on the web
    2) Open Normal.dot (right hand mouse click| Open to open template not double left click) and change the default settings for the page setup to A4 and save template as normal

Once you have done number 2) open anew instance of Word via word.exe and see if the problem goes.

    3) Check the printer menu and make sure it is set to A4... this sometimes gets overlooked

    4) Cut all your A4 paper to US letter size <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Get back to us with what you find <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

With your new (blank) document open in Word:

File > Page Setup > Paper > Print Options...

Do you have "Allow A4/letter paper resizing" selected?

Well I would say it is definitely the normal.dot that is the key to this solution but this time we can look at the Control panel as well

First ensure that Control Panel|Regional Settings is selected to UK

if not, then select UK and select 'Default Locale' at lower LH corner. Administrator privileges required to set this.

Also check 'English United Kingdom' set by 'users' for their personal accounts via the same Control Panel route.

    Now

    1) Open Word, and open Normal.dot for editing. Menu - Tools/Language/Set Language. Select English UK and Select 'default'.
    2) Select OK to the query dialogue 'that all subsequent docs based on the normal template will default to UK setting'.
    3) Save Normal.dot.
4)Confirm again that all other templates in use are set to A4.

OK - that was in Word 2002 - in Word 2000 it seems to be set only in Tools > Options > Print...

BTW - this problem has nothing to do with the 'Letter' paper size you have showing in your attachment, does it? Is that what you have with a default new page?

This cannot be edited as file is read only.

If Normal.dot is set to Letter, and if you cannot edit Normal.dot, you're stuck. You'll have to set each new document to A4.
