    labels (Word 2002 (XP))

Word absolutely drives me NUTS! The latest is that it will not print labels exactly the same in height and width. Most labels will be placed perfectly, while several stray outside the borders. If labels are printed without any extra characters, are within the label borders, and the correct label template is selected, should not they fit?

    Re: labels (Word 2002 (XP))

I don't print a lot of labels, but when I have Word inserts a table. Generally speaking, the cells of the table should align with the bodies of the labels, but the precise alignment depends on the style and formatting of the contents of the cells. If you type everything in from scratch, then the contents should have the format determined by Word. However, if you copy and paste, then new formatting might be introduced. To ensure that they are all the same, you might need to select all cells and manually "fix" the formatting. If that doesn't take, or if the table was wonky from the moment Word inserted it, could you post a sample document?

This is the document. The printing is just outside the top of some labels of each page, so the number is cut off a bit and not legible. I tried to format the cells without much luck. I think Word senses I do not like it!

Is there a pattern as to which labels have this problem, for instance the first ones on each page, or the last ones, or ...?

Does the problem occur only in the cells with 4 lines of text? Maybe that font needs to be reduced in those cases?

    Re: labels (Word 2002 (XP))

I've had this problem on occasion but it wasn't Word. It was the combination of the type of label (very smooth stock) I was using and the particular printer I was using (inkjet). Try printing a page or two of these labels on plain paper (on a laser if possible) and then superimpose them on the label stock. If the "plain paper" labels line up correctly, it may be that the labels are slipping a bit between the feed rollers in the printer.

There does not appear to be a pattern, though the cells with four lines are usually involved. To my way of thinking, if the text fits in the table cells, it should fit in the labels. But then, who am I to question... <img src=/S/bananas.gif border=0 alt=bananas width=33 height=35>
