    Barcode fonts (Word 2002 /XP SP3)

    hello

I dont know if this is the right forum to post about barcodes.

Im using the barcode font 3 of 9. Using the font in either Word or Excel.
    A couple of things:
    1. If I use special characters eg tab or return. the result is this doesnt get read in by the scanner.
    2. If I have a word thats a mixture of upper and lower case, the result is for the lowercase characters have a +k before the lowercase characters.

    eg BOOkworm(return)

Any ideas? should I be using another font?
    many thanks
    diana

ps. Ive searched the forum on barcodes, but none of the posts answer my question.

According to one page I found in Google for Code 39 (or 3/9):

    1. A tab can be represented with $I (that's a capital i); there are codes for Line feed, Form feed, and Carriage return, too. You might have to type these codes manually rather than expecting Word/Excel to do the conversion when you press these keys.

    2. This is how the font differentiates lowercase and uppercase characters.

When we set up our barcoding system, we chose Code 128. Character Set B allows for upper and lower case letters, as well as common symbols. I wrote a macro that converts a user's "human-readable" input to the text required by the Code 128 font we purchased. Not sure where that code is today, and maybe they are using a little application supplied by the font manufacturer, which lets you copy and paste the required text.

    Hi Jefferson,

Morovia Corporation produces Code 128 barcode fonts, along with vba code for doing the text to barcode conversion. The code is available at:
    http://www.morovia.com/font/support/vba.asp
(note that you're supposed to own a valid license from Morovia Corporation to use the code)

The folks at Morovia used to claim the code only works with Excel, but I've used it unchanged in Word. Even though they've acknowledged my feedback on this, the website still implies that the code needs to be modified to work in Word - it doesn't.

    Cheers

    thanks Jefferson and Macropod

I was wanting to avoid writing any code. I wanted something simple. Just type in the number/text (and if a character has to be upper or lower case then type in the required command), scan with the barcode scanner and ensure its readable and working.

I'll have a look Macropods link. And with Jeffersons suggestion, I'll google it too. (as i totally forgot to do this ...oops <img src=/S/RollEyes.gif border=0 alt=RollEyes width=19 height=19> )
