already opened exclusively by another user (access 97)

Assistance/thoughts please on accessing DB via browser.
I've already had the db reports working through local host but when going on intranet I'm experiencing the following message:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'mydbtables_Web.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data."

Checked the access rights to the local folder and database and made sure read/write rights are correct but still no joy.
    Anyone suggest other?

    TIA
    Alan

Are you going through Access or through a web page to try and open it?

Re: already opened exclusively by another user (access 97)

Sorry Charlotte, I got distracted part way through posting and realise now I hadn't included the full picture.

In the Web forum I posted query re:connecting to database over network ( http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.p...=560606&fpart=1 ) whilst using aspx pages. With great help from the posters (jscher, jerry and mark) I "re-aligned" my thinking on this and the result was - database is now on same server as the iis.
The aspx pages work great - when on the local host where I am developing the pages.
But when I post to site, the links come back with the "exclusive use" report.
Whilst I can appreciate that the main gist of the query is to do with web page coding, and I figure that the connection string is correct (same format as when used locally), the remaining area for error appears to be with the database location/security.
    So, in base form:
    localhost path is on C:inetpubwwwrootmanagementreports
This folder contains pages and access database
When pages are browsed it looks fine

    The end server setup is:
    server - c:inetpubwwwroot
with a virtual folder of - Finance

The actual location of Finance is in D:web of the server

Security appears exactly the same for each location (local or server) but still present this "exclusive use" dialogue.
Previously when I have seen this error it has been as a result of the folder access rights not being sufficient for the user to be able to create/write/destroy the .ldb file
But with the current access rights this should not be a problem.

    TIA
    Alan

I don't think this is really an Access question at all, particularly since Access 97 didn't know a thing about ASP of any flavor. It sounds to me like something that is still web-related. What do you mean by "when I post to the site" anyhow?

"When I post to the site" - when I have transferred my pages/vb/dll's to the site server folder(s).

I thought it was the coding as well, but seeing as I'm trying to connect to an access database I figured someone in this forum may have experienced the same.
The dialogue "exclusive rights" is same as when someone really has got the db open exclusively and you try to open it through normal means.
It also occurs when the user doesn't have read/write to the containing folder etcetera - but I have set all the rights to enable read/write/destroy.

I have experienced the same, but not under those circumstances. I've hit that wall when I tried to open an Access database that already had open connections from a localhost web app.

    Hi Alan,
Since you are using IIS 5.0, have you by chance tried the following knowledge base article? It is for the IUSR_machinename account, but can be altered to use whatever account you have designated as the anonymous user.

There are other useful links at the bottom of the article that have come in handy for me in the past.

    Great - connection sorted.
used the local path in the connection string and all seems OK.
    Local path being DtherwebFindatabasemydb.mdb

Can't for the life of me see where security has changed since last I checked it but all appears to be connecting OK now.

    Thanks for the responses.
