    Conflict with Norton 2006? (Access2003)

Anyone run across a problem with using Access2003 and Norton2006? I recently tried to help someone who all of a sudden couldn't use office automation to create an e-mail in Outlook after upgrading to Norton2006 from 2004 version. I thought I got it working (among other things, I removed reference to Outlook library, since they were using late binding), but after I left they re-installed Norton2006 and problem reoccurred. They uninstalled Norton2006 and went back to Norton2004, and problem cleared up.

Perhaps on a separate note, does the /decompile option still work in Access2003? It didn't seem to.

Did they turn off the Office plug-in for Norton Anti Virus?

According to a Microsoftie in this newsgroup thread, /decompile should still work.

I don't really know, I wasn't involved in the installation. I'll mention it to them. Is it an installation option?

No, it's an option you can turn on/off at any time - activate the Norton Anti Virus console (main window), click Options, then Miscellaneous. There is a check box for the Office plug-in which is "on" by default. It should be "off".

I'll add my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> from a very recent experience. I suddenly found that I could not link to any new ODBC tables from Access 2003. After doing a bunch of web research I found people using mySQL were encountering the same problem, and that turning off the Office plugin in Norton Internet Security (AntiVirus) solved the problem. So I turned mine off, and suddenly I could link to SQL Server tables again.

The symptom of the problem is that you are able to get the link dialog to come up, but when you choose ODBC as the type you wish to link to, the dialog simply disappears and you are back at the database container window. The odd part about this is that I've been running Norton 2006 since mid January, and regularly working with SQL Server tables, and it suddenly showed up a couple of days ago.

That is freaky! You have a shot at figuring out a problem after you make some software changes, but months later!!!!
