Repairing (WXP SP2)

Microsoft emailed us their "50 Best Tips Ever" which included repairing our XP installation & running system file checker BUT...

Our machine says it cannot find 'sfc/scannow'

& when we put the WXP original CD in, to effect a repair, it says it cant do it because the version installed (ie SP2) is more recent than the CD

Is there any solution, we wonder?

SFC ( System File Checker ) is found in the WindowsSystem32 folder and is sfc.exe.

The proper way to run it is Start>run and type sfc /scannow. click Ok Note the Space between the sfc and the slash character. SFC /SCANNOW

As it runs have your windows XP CD ready. it will MOST probably ask for it...repeatedly.

There should be a space between sfc and /scannow:

    sfc /scannow

To accomplish a repair install you must slipstream SP-2 with your original XP CD. Search the lounge for slipstream and you'll find other threads on the subject.
