Are you referring to automatic revision marks? If so, they will only be on the lines which actually have been changed.

The macro I use cuts the selected text, turns tracking on, then re-inserts the cut text and turns tracking off. So all the text is new as far as Word is concerned.

I have not been able to duplicate this behavior. To test, I created a new document, turned on revision tracking, and made changes in three different places, with several lines between each. Revision marks appeared next to the three lines only. I turned revision tracking off, then I created the following macro:

Selection.Cut
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = True
Selection.Paste

I then made a selection which included all three changes. I executed the macro. All the lines in the selection were then highlighted with the revision mark (which I presume is the desired result, and the expected one).

Are you doing anything differently?

Re: Change Bars (Office 2000)

No solution here, just to observe that I can reproduce this in Word 2000 (SR-1) - create a document with some paragraphs that contain several lines of text each. Turn Track Changes on. Select an entire paragraph and delete. Select another paragraph, copy, and then paste in entirety somewhere else. When I do this, I get every other line missing the change bar.

However on my machine the problem only appears in the onscreen view (even print preview), but the change bars are continuous on the hard copy when the document is printed. This may be a Word bug as it's hard to think of any other reason for this combination of effects.

Re: Change Bars (Office 2000)

Although I can't reproduce this particular problem, I have known Word 97 to exhibit similar behavior in its display of revision bars. We periodically receive a document for distribution, along with a printed copy. The Word document is used to produce a PDF file, which must match the printed copy exactly, each line break, page break, etc. While reviewing the Word document in Page Layout view (prior to conversion to Adobe Acrobat), we notice that some of the revision bars are different than on the printed copy - some longer, some shorter. However, upon printing to the Acrobat Distiller driver to produce the PDF, the revision bars are correct in the PDF version.

Here is the Macro I wrote, the change bars showed up completely in Office 97 now they don't in Office 2000.

ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = Not
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions
Selection.Cut
Selection.Paste
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = Not ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions

Just as an aside, you might want to avoid the use of "Not" here (and use the specific True and False instead) - as it is now, this is going to work as a toggle.

What if the user runs this macro with the state of track changes being different from what you expect - i.e. already on?
